Special Delivery: Too Much Horror Business by Print Brigade

About a month back I received a package in my mail, and it was something that I had been anticipating for quite some time. Unfortunately, due to time constraints and an influx of jobs, I had to delay this review. However, I did not want to delay it for too long, mainly because Christmas is coming up in less than 10 days, and I’m hoping to help all you last minute shoppers out there and point you to some great options in gifts. So, without further delay, I bring you Print Brigade’s Too Much Horror Business [Gold]
Design, Color And Concept
Doodles are the in-thing at the moment, and what you get on this tee is a full set of doodles on everything that has to do with horror. We’re talking everything from hearses, snakes and axes to limbs, tombstones and skulls with a very cartoonish feel to it. The chaotic placement of each image, although random, is really well executed and most probably done on multiple layers in Photoshop, each adjusted and readjusted for the final output. Either that or the guys over at Print Brigade are really just that great at doodling, which would make this particular design all the more unique. The concept obviously suits Halloween, [which would make this review rather late!] but in all honesty you could sport this tee all year round. I wore the shirt to the shopping mall the other day for a field test, and I gotta say that it does make people turn around and stare at the random images. Add shimmery gold to an already rad design and you’d definitely get more than a few turning heads.

Screen Printing Quality
This is a single colored screen printed job, and has the home made D.I.Y. feel to it. The shimmery gold paint that is printed on black stands out, and you can hardly go wrong when you match gold and black together. Add handsome well thought off graphics on it and you get a real fine piece of work. The beauty of D.I.Y. tees like these are:-
- Limited runs, meaning these guys don’t bulk produce these stuff, meaning it’s gonna be quite rare to see another piece or bumping into someone with the same tee.
- Affordable. These tees go at around USD$16 a pop, and for great screen printing quality like these, is just worth every cent.
There is a slight downside to the print runs when it is home made, and that is consistency. If you look at the image above, you will see that it starts off slightly saturated, followed by a consistency of the level of paint used. This is probably due to the amount of strength used to push the paint thru the screen mesh towards the cloth. Then again, it could just be a small flaw on the particular shirt that was sent to me. Either way, this is the beauty of D.I.Y., where two productions are never the same. All in all, the quality is still excellent, professionally executed, and the only flaw is hardly noticeable, if at all, by the normal layman’s eye.

T-shirt quality
Print Brigade utilizes Jerzees Heavyweight Blend 5.6 Oz. 50/50 Cotton/Poly Men’s T-Shirt, meaning you get quality blend of cotton and polyester. At first I was quite skeptical because of the fact that I’ve tried to wear black for years in this country, only to fail miserably and end up succumbing to sweat, but to their credit, Jerzees have manage to produce something that’s rather comfortable and light around the collar. It’s one of my favorite black tees to date, and if I had to wear black on a hot sweltering day, this would be the first thing I’d grab. Print Brigade sent me a size M tee, and to my delight it was one of those body fitting tees that compliments my broad shoulders and takes the attention away from my tummy! You should wash the tee first before donning it, because of the cotton/polyester blend. Upon washing tho, it becomes very comfortable to wear and light. Great choice here.

The Last Note
If I had to buy these tees, I definitely would. In fact, I’m thinking of getting one of their newer designs. They’ve got a great combo of smart quirky designs and an excellent choice of colors. Also, they are strictly D.I.Y. and limited, so you can only get them at select stores or thru their online shop. Again, I have to mention the fabric they use, meaning that you are getting quality in both design and the material used. I have mentioned Print Brigade in my past articles and have said that they are a brand that’s going places, and I really do back up what I’ve said before, in fact, I’m more certain than ever now. They are certainly not your typical Phat Pharm’s or Crooks N Castles type, but their designs are suited for a niche crowd who want a different option altogether.

Hey Alan, thanks for the review! To answer your question, this was actually drawn all at once. I have been doing paintings like this for years and I have been quite accustomed to working shapes together and blending in the negative space.

Update: I’ve been wearing this shirt for quite a while now, washed it quite a few times, and I’m glad to report that not a single bit of paint nor shine has faded or come out. It’s definitely a great tee, value for money.
