When I first contacted the DOMA Crew, I had doubts that they would have the time to have a chat with me. I did a little background research on them and knew that they were actually a team of creative designers, always busy, always on the go, always doing something new. To my surprise, they obliged even though they were working on a project with Nike and had minimal time to chat. They turn out to be pretty decent and down to earth people, with creativity in abundance.

FM: Let’s talk a little about your huge dolls and inflatable’s. How in blazes do you produce them? What kind of materials do you use [or is it a secret?]
DOMA: The same person that does our plush doll lines manufactures most of the giant dolls in Argentina. All the dolls are handcrafted one by one and we always try for the production to be simple. Most of our dolls start from basic shapes. The fabrics we use can always be found in the market. Before we produce, we look for what we think is the best material for the doll.

FM: Between the four of you, you’ve produced an astounding number of works. Does it pay to be in a group, or is it better to work as an individual?
DOMA: We’ve been working together for a very long time now and we know each other very well. Even though we have differences, we always try to overcome them and use them to add value to what we do. That diversity always helped us and we took benefit from it.

FM: Where do you guys work? Do you have your own studio, basement, or garage?
DOMA: We have an office in Buenos Aires where we gather to develop our projects.

FM: I noticed that you guys always use yellow, red and light blue for most of your graphical stuff. Why is that?
DOMA: Even though those are our main colors, thay aren’t the only ones we use. The use of color is part of our identity as a brand.

FM: What does DOMA mean?
DOMA: In Spanish DOMA means to domesticate a wild animal. At the time we picked it we liked the meaning and its strength. It was also pronounced similar in different languages.

FM: Wow… it’s way deeper in meaning than I would have ever imagined. It’s an approviate name for your crew, really. Has life always been this good? Tell us a lil about your backgrounds please.
DOMA: We are three graphic designers and one filmmaker. The four of us have different backgrounds. We listen to different music, we read different books and we watch different films. Some of us like street art the most, others like fine art, illustration, animation, cinema. Our ideas emerge from this diversity and that explains the different orientations in what we do.

FM: Which parts of the world have you guys worked at, and which was the most fun? Tell us why please.
DOMA: Two of us have worked in the U.S. besides Argentina, and we all travel regularly.

FM: What’s next for you guys? What are your plans down the line in terms of careers?
DOMA: We are currently focusing only on projects in which Doma can propose the main idea and the way to produce them. At present we are working together with Nike for their Buenos Aires marathon that will take place on November 11th.

FM: What do you do in your spare time?
DOMA: Generally we don’t have much free time. If we do we try to create something new.

FM: What football team do you support? I’m guessing River Plate [I love the jersey]!!
DOMA: Two of us support River Plate and the other two support Boca Juniors.
